\nThe Town of Wilton is governed by the Town board with the Town Supervisor at it’s head and representing the town at the County level. The Town Board is the legislative appropriating, governing and policy determining body of the Town. The Town Board determines the types and levels of service to be provided in the Town. The board annually adopts the Town budget which reflects the cost of conducting operations and monitors Town operations. In its legislative capacity, the Board passes resolutions and enacts ordinances and laws which govern the functions of town government and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.<\/p>\n

This is an important position because the Board of Supervisors determine the use and distribution of local\/state funds.\u00a0 The decisions made by the board directly impact the every day lives of Wilton residents.\u00a0 This is a salaried position.<\/p>\n
\nThere are four Town Board members. Each serve four-year terms with two of the positions up for re-election every two years (odd years). Board members determine the types and levels of service to be provided in the Town. The board annually adopts the Town budget, which reflects the cost of conducting operations and monitors Town operations. In its legislative capacity, the Board passes resolutions and enacts ordinances and laws which govern the functions of town government and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. Board members are organize, research, and vote on town planning and zoning issues. These positions directly impact the daily lives of Wilton residents.\u00a0 Each town board member may serve as the liaison to a department such as Gavin Park, the highway department, emergency squad, etc. Town Board member positions are salaried positions.<\/p>\n
\nThe Town Clerk is responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: Registrar of Vital Statistics, Election Coordinator, and Records Manager. As of 2010, the duties of Tax Receiver are also handled by the Town Clerk.<\/p>\n
\nThe Highway Department is responsible for maintaining approximately 100 center-line miles of Town roads. These responsibilities include snow removal and ice control, paving and the maintenance of roads, signage, roadway markings, drainage, tree and brush cutting and removal within the Town\u2019s right of way and the disposal of non- domestic dead animals in a timely manner if they are on a TOWN road (the Highway Department will dispose of dead deer whereas dead dogs would be taken care of by the Dog Control Officer). Highway Supervisor is a paid position which oversees these functions and is up for re-election every two years.<\/p>\n
\nThe Town Justice Court has jurisdiction over a broad range of matters, including vehicle and traffic matters, small claims, evictions, civil matters and criminal offenses.<\/p>\n
