Bobby Logan Announces Run for Saratoga County DA

August 8, 2025 — Bobby Logan formally announced his candidacy for Saratoga County District Attorney, receiving the unanimous endorsement of the Saratoga County Democratic Committee.

As reported by Wendy Liberatore of the Times Union:

BALLSTON SPA — Saying he wants to remove partisan politics and cultural wars from the District Attorney’s office, former county prosecutor Robert “Bobby” Logan said he will seek the job as the county’s top lawyer.

The candidate announced his bid to a large crowd of Democrats on Friday afternoon at the Milton Community Center.

“I am here as a different kind of candidate not encumbered by politics, independent-minded, a person of integrity with a strong work ethic,” said Logan, who served as an assistant district attorney under Karen Heggen. “I’m also an experienced prosecutor… Keeping Saratoga as a safe place is paramount to me. I have shown I can prosecute all types of crime to keep our county the highly desirable place it is. There should not be a Republican or Democratic way of prosecuting crime — there is only the right way. … I am running to take the politics out of law enforcement.”

The Saratoga Springs resident, who got his start prosecuting crimes in the Bronx, will face Brett Eby, the Republican and Conservative choice in the November general election. They are vying for the seat held by Heggen, who spent 11 years as the county’s district attorney and chose to step down on Aug. 1.

The winning candidate will have a four-year term in office.

In addition to prosecuting crimes in the Bronx and Saratoga County, Logan also worked in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office and headed up the office’s vehicular crimes bureau. He has also worked for the state Legislature and now serves as an attorney in the state Department of Taxation and Finance, investigating and prosecuting fraud cases.

Logan is a graduate of Molloy College. He earned his master’s in public administration from SUNY Binghamton and his law degree from Pace University School of Law.

Eby, a Halfmoon resident, is a principal court attorney for state Supreme Court Justice Paul Davenport.

Logan said he never sought to run for district attorney, but that “unprecedented times call for unprecedented leaders.”

“In a time of severe polarization, it is this precise moment that individuals need to stand up and become part of the solution,” Logan said. “This is one of the main reasons I seek the office of district attorney. … I am standing up because I possess professional experience and I am unwilling to remain on the sidelines any longer.”

On Friday morning, Eby, who looked to be running unopposed as Democrats named their candidate just days before the deadline, said that he hasn’t met Logan and doesn’t know what his campaign will look like. But he promised to remain positive throughout the coming months.

“We have a tremendous amount of support,” Eby said. “I’m a lifelong resident. I have a lot of local buy-in. A lot of buy-in from law enforcement. I think it makes me a much better choice.”

At the announcement, Logan also noted he supports all the “problem-solving” courts, including the drug and domestic violence courts, and would like to implement one for veterans.

Martha Devaney, the chair of the county Democratic Committee, introduced Logan as someone who will be ready on Day 1 as he worked in that office and will “prosecute crimes without fear or favor.”
