ACTION ITEM: How you can make your voice heard regarding gun violence in America

Following the tragedy in Florida last week, many of us feel helpless in the face of this continuing violence.  We all agree that we want change…and that change demands action.

Here are some ways you can make sure your voice is heard:

Run for Office

The best way to make change is to BE THE CHANGE!!! If you have thought about the idea of running for local office like school board, town board, county office, or event state office…

We can help you get started!

Call or Email your Representative

Call 202-224-3121 and give them your zip code and they will connect you to your local representative. As Emily Ellsworth suggests in a New York Times article, phone calls from constituents are often more effective than emails because emails are depersonalized and easily ignored amid other overwhelming requests for contact.

You can also find your local and national lawmaker at https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials

Text a Letter

For the Texting Saavy Dem: Text “Resist” to 50409 and this service will actually help you compose and send a letter using Resistbot (https://resist.bot/), a free service that finds and sends letters to lawmakers.

Protest & March

Support the victims of this tragedy by Marching in Solidarity:

Speaking on US television networks on Sunday morning, student survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas announced their March for Our Lives campaign https://www.marchforourlives.com. They are planning to march on Washington on 24 March to demand that children and their families “become a priority” to US lawmakers. They want other protests to happen simultaneously in other cities on the same day.
